This article shares how to best prepare students for the next grade level's instruction, with kindergarten as an example.
If a teacher does not complete all units, students will not have multiple opportunities to practice all Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) throughout the scope and sequence of their current grade level. The first unit of the year in the next grade level provides students with a review. We strongly encourage teachers to complete at least Unit 8 of their Amplify Texas Elementary Literacy Program.
For example:
- Units at the end (Kindergarten Skills Unit 8) provide an end-of-year student performance assessment to identify any individual student weaknesses. To be successful in grade 1, students must have mastered the basic code for the short and consonant sounds, and be able to apply this knowledge to blend and read words.
