Goals for successful implementation
This is a highly structured and sequenced program that’s helpful to students as they learn the spelling code or knowledge. Our goal has been to put things in logical order and provide the guidance and support necessary for a new teacher, or a teacher new to this kind of phonics instruction. For Skills lessons, teachers should not skip lessons where new code knowledge is introduced. For the same reason, teachers should not reorder lessons—this program relies heavily on sequencing, and instruction will be confused and less effective if lessons are reordered.
However, this is not a scripted program in which teachers are required to read the manual and give one of a handful of approved responses. We expect teachers will tweak the phrasing and come up with ways to customize, personalize, and adapt the instruction while preserving the basic instructional principles and sequence of instruction. Teachers should always feel free to add activities or activity pages that are consistent with Amplify’s philosophy of instruction while maintaining the given times for each component.
